Using our body as a metaphor as how we live our lives, our body can be a reflection of our inner beauty and creativity. It is not just what we can do, but how we do it that is essential. It is about the quality of the movement and pose, instead of attaining some incredible physical feat. It is about accepting where we are in our bodies, and moving forward from that sense of grace and strength, creating a stable foundation to grow and build upon.
As of 2006, I am celebrating 30 years of practice, study and teaching. During this time I have found the emphasis of AHIMSA (non-force/non-violence, the very first practice of the first limb of yoga, YAMA), to be a leading principal. With this, I approach the teaching and direction of yoga with care, honoring, and non-judgment of each person’s unique body and potential, encouraging SVADHYAYA (the study of self, one of the personal practices of NIYAMA, the second limb of yoga).
I have found in the last 7 years of studying the physical forms and principles of Shadow Yoga with the founder Zhander Remete to be the greatest source and access to furthering the exploration and discoveries of the above practices, as well as other limbs of yoga.
Without imposing on the body, and mindfully moving through these forms, blending the intrinsic nature with the outer awareness, the body eases into optimal health.
By aligning, keeping the integrity of the spine, and focusing on the breath, the mind quiets, then the heart rests. With the heart at rest, the physical body is more at ease. When the body is more at ease, our receptivity to our intrinsic nature, intelligence, and intuition is more accessible and positioning into the poses is more consciously revealed.
